On the Move Challenge & Bike to Work Day

October 13 - 15, 2023

Bike to Work Day is the kick-off event to the new three-day On the Move Challenge!

Bike, walk, or run your way into this free competition in which you submit your miles moved during the Challenge period to earn points and prizes. Participants are encouraged to join with others at their place of work in the team competition -- and all participants are also on the individual scoreboard.

Why You Should Join

  • Free, with great prizes

  • Fun scoreboard-watching competition for individuals as well as employer teams

  • Unite your team around a common goal

  • Promote health and fitness and get motivated

  • Start a new healthy habit or hobby

How It Works

  • Points are earned for each person who submits miles traveled on foot or by bicycle between October 13-15, 2023. Submit miles here.

  • Each place of employment is a team. One person from each employer should register their team for free here.

  • The team with the most points wins! And every team with at least 1,000 points also wins cash prizes (Downtown Dollars).

  • The top 3 individuals will also win a prize - no team necessary.

How to earn points

Points will be automatically added to the scoreboards within 5 minutes after they have been submitted through this form. Activities MUST be submitted by 9:00pm ET on October 15 to be counted.

Points are earned for everyone who participates regardless of where they go. As shown in the Scoring Guide, bonus points are awarded for biking/walking/jogging to:

  • work or school

  • a store from which you make a purchase

  • a restaurant from which you make a purchase

  • the Ride with the Mayor 1-mile ride downtown followed by pizza on Friday, October 13 at 6pm at Rylander Park, and

  • our Energizing Station at the Americus Public Safety Building from 7:30 - 9:30am on Friday, October 13.

The team bonus helps smaller employers compete against larger ones.

Scoring Clarifications

You may submit miles as many times as you'd like over the course of the event, but only submit each activity once.

Each mover may only receive any of the bonuses once. Any scoring disputes will be decided by the event organizers, who also have the right to require some evidence of miles completed (photo, activity tracker, etc.).

A team must be a formal entity like an employer, school or church. To join a team, you should be an employee, student or member of that body, OR a member of the same household (spouse, child, etc.) of someone who is. Each person can join only one team.

Other forms of non-motorized rolling such as roller blades, scooters, skateboards and wheelchairs may also submit miles in the biking category. E-bikes that require pedaling are permitted.

To prevent abuse such as "walking to the store" from your car, mileage submissions must be 0.25 miles or more. All destinations reached 'by Feet' should have begun from a reasonable starting place such as your home or place of work. No specific destination is required to earn points.

*Only the top 10 participants from each team, maximum, will receive the Downtown Dollars.
