On the Move Challenge
SEPTEMBER 4 - 7, 2025
The On the Move Challenge is a free competition in which you submit your miles biked, walked, or ran during the challenge period to earn points and prizes!

Participants are encouraged to form a team with others at their school, workplace, or place of worship for a team competition -- and all participants are also on the individual scoreboard.

How It Works

Points are earned for each person who submits miles traveled on foot or by bicycle between September 4-7, 2025. Submit miles here.

Teams consist of places of employment, schools or churches (place of worship). One person from each team should register their team for free here.

The team with the most points wins! And every team with at least 1,500 points also wins cash prizes (choice of Downtown Dollars or Chick-fil-A gift cards).

The top 3 individuals will also win a prize - no team necessary.

How to earn points
Every mile moved through your own power by foot (walking, jogging, etc.) or by bicycle allow you to earn points that you claim through submitting this form. Points will be automatically added to the scoreboards within 5 minutes after they have been submitted. All activities must be submitted by 9:00pm ET on September 7 to be counted.

In addition to logging your own miles, there are specially organized group activities and additional ways to earn bonus points for yourself and for your team. See the Schedule below and the Scoring Guide for more details.
Schedule of Group Activities

Thursday, September 4 at 6:00pm: Kick-off the On the Move Challenge by joining the Campus and Community Kickoff Cruise, a free leisurely 4-mile bicycle ride starting from the GSW campus to Downtown and back. Then stick around for GSW's fantastic "Under the Lights" event with free food, activities, soccer, and fireworks!

Friday, September 5 from 7:30 - 9:30am: Walk or bike to work for bonus points and add a stop at our Energizing Station at the Americus Public Safety Building from 7:30 - 9:30am for refreshments and community connection!

Saturday, September 7 at 9:30am: Meet at Pat's Place for Sumter Cycling's First Saturday Ride with free lunch to follow!​




Scoring Clarifications
You may submit miles as many times as you'd like over the course of the event, but only submit each activity once.
​
Each mover may only receive any of the bonuses once. Any scoring disputes will be decided by the event organizers, who also have the right to require some evidence of miles completed (photo, activity tracker, etc.).
​
A team must be a formal entity like an employer, school or church. To join a team, you should be an employee, student or member of that body, OR a member of the same household (spouse, child, etc.) of someone who is. Each person can join only one team.
​
Other forms of non-motorized rolling such as roller blades, scooters, skateboards and wheelchairs may also submit miles in the biking category. E-bikes that require pedaling are permitted. (Exception: manual wheel chairs may submit their miles as walking miles.)
​
To prevent abuse such as "walking to the store" from your car, mileage submissions must be 0.25 miles or more. All destinations reached 'by Feet' should have begun from a reasonable starting place such as your home or place of work. No specific destination is required to earn points.
​​
Participating in the First Saturday Ride has its own bonus, but it does not earn a second bonus for biking to a restaurant simply by eating at the restaurant afterwards.
​
*Only the top 10 participants from each team, maximum, will receive the Downtown Dollars.

Team Prizes

The Top Team will receive a gift basket from Horne Pecan Company plus $20 in their choice of Americus Downtown Dollars or Chick-fil-A gift cards for each participant.* Wow! The press will also be notified.

Every additional team that surpasses 1,500 points will receive $10 in their choice of Americus Downtown Dollars or Chick-fil-A gift cards for each participant, up to 10.*

Only those who live or work in Sumter County, Georgia or an adjoining county are eligible, and the members of their households.
