Winter Warm-Up Ride

Sumter Cycling hosted a bicycle ride on Feb. 4. In spite of cooler temperatures from the previous week, twenty-seven cyclists completed various distances of 12, 30 or 72 miles.

Sumter Cycling, RVRC’s ‘Tour de Farm’ shows cyclists another side of Georgia

The fourth annual Tour de Farm event, sponsored by Sumter Cycling and the River Valley River Commission (RVRC) was an absolute success, according to regional community and bicycle-pedestrian organizer, Julio Portillo of the RVRC in a recent press release.


“Although we only had approximately 20 riders, the support from local communities and leaders was tremendous,” Portillo said. “We welcomed close to 70 individuals from Columbus, Americus, Harris County, Bluffton and LaGrange at the annual ‘Meat and Greet’ event, which is one of the most popular components of Tour de Farm.”

Sumter Cycling, NPS, RVRC host another successful “Prison to Peanuts Bicycle Adventure”

AMERICUS – Sumter Cycling, in conjunction with the National Park Service and the River Valley Regional Commission, sponsored the annual Prison to Peanuts bicycle adventure on April 23 in Sumter County. Over 100 riders participated in the event, with 15 opting to go in for the long haul, a 105-mile ride that spanned five towns in two counties.
Beginning at Rees Park in Americus, the route was designed to showcase many of Sumter County’s historic landmarks as well as give participants the opportunity to take in some of the gorgeous scenery in around the area.
